    Installation step-by-step

    The emteria.OS is released in the form of multiple separate packages, which have to be combined on the storage of the target device (e.g. SD card for a Raspberry Pi). For your convenience, we also provide a graphical installer for emteria.OS, which can be executed on your PC or laptop and performs all required steps automatically.

    Attention: do not download this program directly to your target device, but use your PC or laptop instead to prepare the storage!

    Installer Download

    Login to your emteria account at https://emteria.com by using the “Login” button in the top right corner.
    Download the installer application by choosing the operating system of your PC or laptop. Wait for the download to complete and continue with the corresponding section below.

    Installer for Linux

    In a terminal, locate the downloaded installer file and make it executable.
    Start the installer as superuser. This is a necessary step to allow low-level access to your SD card. When prompted, enter the password of your Linux system user account.
    As soon as the installer starts, process with the installation of emteria.OS as described below.

    Installer for Windows

    Start the setup wizard and follow the instructions to setup the installer on your machine. Make sure to install all recommended components to prevent runtime problems.
    Find the installer in the Windows start menu and start it from there.
    As soon as the installer starts, process with the installation of emteria.OS as described below.

    Installer for Mac OS

    Open the downloaded disk archive and drag the installer to your Applications folder.
    In a terminal, start the installer as superuser. This is necessary to allow low-level access to your SD card. When prompted, enter the password of your Mac user account.
    As soon as the installer starts, process with the installation of emteria.OS as described below.

    Installation of emteria.OS

    Follow the steps in the installer to flash emteria.OS onto your SD card.

    Use the same username and password you use to login into your emteria account (forgot your password?).
    Select the target hardware platform you would like to install emteria.OS for. Note: click “Show changes” to see the changes for the current version.
    Make sure your target data storage or the corresponding internal memory is properly connected to your computer. Choosing one of the listed drives will start the installation.
    Wait for the download and installation process to complete and press Quit install to close the installer. In case of errors, please send us the error log accessible through the button Show log file.

    Space requirements

    As mentioned above, emteria.OS consists of multiple separate packages, which are automatically downloaded and installed to your SD card or the device’s internal memory. The size of those packages can vary depending on the device and emteria.OS version. The installer will use the full data storage and partition it accordingly. Here is an example of approximate partition sizes created by emteria.OS 0.5.7 on an 8 GB SD card for Raspberry Pi 3 (these values may change in future releases):
