The emteria.OS is an Android-based, industry-ready software platform for embedded systems. Besides of enabling the execution of generic Android applications for modern hardware, emteria.OS introduces advanced features for basic real-time support and simplified platform customization. The familiarity to the end-user, rich UI framework and millions of already existing applications open an immense variety of possible use cases and fields of application.
The platform is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), providing full-fledged Android support. As depicted on the right, emteria.OS comprises the middleware between high-level user applications and the low-level system like Linux kernel and device-specific drivers (also known as the Board Support Package – BSP).
The emteria.OS includes all standard Android system services and applications to enable simple configuration, activation and the general utilization of the system. The emteria-specific and device-specific functionality is encapsulated by dedicated applications like Emteria Settings, Raspberry Pi Settings and the License Manager. Additional third-party applications like Browser, Superuser, F-Droid and File Manager are preinstalled to demonstrate possible use cases and simplify the handling.
Board support package
The Linux kernel and device-specific configuration (BSP) are not part of emteria.OS, but they create the necessary basis for booting emteria.OS on your preferred hardware. To simplify the evaluation and deployment of emteria.OS, corresponding BSPs for supported devices are provided separately at no additional cost. The board support package is automatically downloaded and included during the installation process of emteria.OS with the provided installer application.
